Brandon's Lower Falls
Take a stroll through Brandon's downtown. Listed on the National Register of Historic Places, one can feel the sense of history and 19th century significance from Brandon's buildings and town greens. Center and Park Streets are home to a lovely commercial district with interesting and tasteful shops. Park and Pearl Streets, which radiate from downtown, are filled with immaculate 19th century homes with historical and architectural significance. When in town, pick up a copy of our self-guided walking tour of the historical district.

Visit the Area's Covered Bridges -- In Brandon, there is one covered bridge, the Sanderson Bridge, on Pearl St. Extension. In Pittsford, just seven miles south, there are four covered bridges across Otter Creek. They were built in the 1840s and are of Town Lattice construction. Middlebury, to our north, has a rare two-lane bridge, and one of Vermont's two covered railroad bridges is at Richville Pond, west of Brandon near Shoreham.

Branford House Antiques (Antiquing the way it was before the Internet) Home of "The Antique Poet" offering history, provenance, enlightenment, poems and bygone Americana. Also home to "This Olde Office" specializing in antique office technologies and vintage office accrutrements.  Branford House is an 1850s farmhouse on a historic and senic Vermont dairy farm on Route 7, just a few miles south of the beautiful Brandon Village.  Open daily 10 to 5.  

4 Conant Interiors (4 Conant Square; 802-247-0027) - Their vision combines high style with practical design to create magnificent, unexpected, and always comfortable interiors. Brent and Charles travel Europe and the Americas to acquire beautiful and one-of-a-kind architectural elements, reclaimed building materials, textiles and furnishings. In downtown Brandon.

Brandon's Creative Economy is red hot! With so many artists, there are many studios and galleries open to the public.

Brandon's most famous artist, Warren Kimble, closed his gallery / museum in Jan. 2006. However, Warren can be found around town helping other artists, working at the Brandon Artists Guild, helping with committees, and having a good time. Warren's original artwork and signed prints are now available at the Liza Myers Gallery & Studio.


Liza Myers Gallery & Studio features original painting, sculpture, prints and cards by Liza Myers. After wandering the western hemispheres, Liza  has brought her colorful images of the natural world to historic Brandon. Her artwork has won awards nationally and internationally. The Judith Reilly Gallery, featuring Judith's fabric art, is open on Friday and Saturday afternoons at 24 Conant Square. Local Artists have come together to create an art gallery/store right in downtown Brandon. The Brandon Artists Guild, at 7 Center St. (802-247-4956), represents more than 50 talented people who are juried in order to enter. These are the folks who brought community art projects to Vermont. Brandon. Their shows include:The Really Really Pig Show, Brandon Is For The Birds, Brandon Rocks, Its Reigning Cats & Dogs, Brandon: Thinking Outside the Box, and Starring Brandon. The gallery is open daily.

Artisans at the Bend is located "at the bend" on Route 7 near the edge of the village. The barn is a studio/gallery for creating contemporary folk art paintings and sculpture. Owner/artists Jim Barner and Robin Rodda Kent's work has been purchased by the American Folk Art Museum in New York City, the Warren Kimble Museum's permanent collection in Brandon, and carried by prominent galleries nationwide. Surrounded by gracious countryside just outside of Brandon's artistic downtown lies Brandon Music – Vermont’s classical music haven.  Brandon Music is the North American headquarters of owner Stephen Sutton’s British classical music record company, Divine Art Recordings Group.  Located in Warren Kimble’s former historic red barn studio and gallery, Brandon Music hosts the Divine Art CD Store, Harmony English Tea Room, a Vermont art gallery, and a vintage collector’s corner.  The Divine Art CD Store showcases a wide collection of contemporary to rare classical music from the Divine Art, Diversions, Metier, and Athene record labels.  Harmony English Tea Room – a chic English-style tearoom and live music café – sells specialty British teas and coffees, new and vintage tea-ware, and will schedule regular performances by new and visiting artists as well as special themed events such as “tea-dances.”  An art gallery showcases work by local artists and a collector’s corner is planned which will offer the sale of vintage and rare historic vinyl records while featuring a growing assortment of vintage music related collectables.  Brandon Music is open year round and more information is available at www.brandonmusicvt.com or by calling 802-465-4071.

Carr's Florist and Gifts
at 21 Center St. (802-247-5727) is a store in which to spend some time! Pick up a bag of Jelly Belly™ jelly beans and then make sure to  admire the beautiful fresh cut and arranged flowers and pick up gifts such as candles, stuffed animals, and beautiful note paper. 

Briggs Carriage Bookstore is located at 16 Park Street, next door to the Brandon Inn.  The bookstore is a 6,000-square-foot parcel of Literary Paradise where customers can browse the shelves, relax in comfy chairs, or chat with the witty, wise, and friendly staff.  The second floor features the Ball and Chain Café, which serves fair trade coffee and espresso beverages, teas, fruit smoothies, Italian sodas, fresh lemonade, and homemade baked goods.  With chess and game nights, a weekly knitting circle, free wireless Ethernet, frequent musical and literary events, and a darned swell ambience, it's a world of books in a small Vermont town.  Open seven days. Brandon's Farms and Agriculture

Enjoy a taste of Vermont farm fresh at Wood's Market Garden featuring straight-from-the-farm fruits, vegetables, jams, flowers, and more. The strawberries here can't be beat! (on Route 7 South, "By the Pond"; 802-247-6630).

Visit Kirby's Happy Hoofers , and see Mohair on the hoof. We are a very small farm devoted to producing mohair and raising registered Angora Goats and a few Shetland and Icelandic Sheep. See Angora Goats of all ages as well what is produced from our fiber. Mittens lined with mohair or socks occasionally available for sale. Directions: Rte 73 East 1.5 miles from the Brandon Inn, we are the 4th house on the right past the turn to the Golf Course (Barn is not visible from the road). Maple View Farm Alpacas

Located north of Brandon is Maple View Farm Alpacas, which specializes in alpacas. Come learn about these gentle, intelligent creatures then browse the farm store, which features garments, accessories, yarns and toys made from luxurious alpaca fiber. Farm visits are by chance or by appointment. (185 Adams, Brandon. For more information, call 247-5412) .

Each Friday from June through October from 9 am - 2 pm, Central Park becomes alive with Brandon Farmer's Market. Vendors sell the freshest produce, breads, jams, honey, maple products, and crafts.

Neshobe River Winery is located at the Old Mill Inn Bed and Breakfast is a small vineyard with a supplement of grapes obtained from Vermont, California, and the Finger Lakes.We expect our first production of estate grapes this fall. A  tasting room,located in the barn, will operate weekends (Friday-Sunday) starting in May through October. During the month of October, we will be open every day, and will close on October 31st. In addition, throughout the week of July 4th, we will be open every day. Wine products and tastings will be available at the Inn during November and December. New England Maple Museum -- The story of maple sugaring in the world’s largest maple museum. Antiques, paintings, slide show, folk art exhibits, maple syrup samples. Vermont Institute of Natural Science - Protects Vermont's natural heritage through education and research designed to engage individuals and communities in the active care of their environment. Quechee Vermont. 802-FLY-5000.

UVM Morgan Horse Farm - World famous historic Morgan horse breeding farm since 1870s. Working  farm for 60-80 Morgans. 74 Battell Dr, Weybridge. 802-388-2011.

Lake Champlain Maritime Museum - Discover why Lake Champlain is perhaps the most historic body of water in North America. Historic exhibits, nautical archaeology, and Revolutionary War gunboat replica Philadelphia II. Open seasonally. Vergennes. 802-475-2022.

The Shelburne Museum - Located in Vermont's scenic Lake Champlain valley, Shelburne Museum is one of the nation's finest, most diverse, and unconventional museums of art and Americana. Stephen A. Douglas Birthplace - Under renovation. Please call the Chamber of Commerce (802-247-6401) for information on access.

Mount Independence (Orwell) - This strategic, wooded hill, high above Lake Champlain is one of the least disturbed Revolutionary War sites. After its capture and subsequent destruction by the British, the fort was left undisturbed for many years. State visitor's center opened in July 1996. Located 6 miles east of Orwell village on Route 73A. (802-759-2412)

Hubbardton Battlefield - the site of the only Revolutionary War battle (July 1, 1777) fought on Vermont soil. Museum exhibits. In Hubbardton: 802-828-3226.

Chimney Point State Historic Site - Site of early Native American campsites and French Colonial Settlement.  Museum. 7305 VT Rte. 125, Addison. 802-759-2412.

Fort Ticonderoga - the site of the first American victory of the Revolution. In the summer, enjoy Fife and Drum Corps performances and cannon demonstrations daily; guided tours, museum shop. Admission. In Fort Ticonderoga, NY, 1/2 mile east of Fort Ti ferry from Shoreham, VT.
